3D detection
Tagit Systems are the only one on the market which detect EM labels in books & media in all 3 directions, whereas other systems only protect labels in 2 directions.
BOOSTER BAG
PROVED ALARM
Tagit Systems, combined with special Tagit B labels have the best protection of books, even if placed in shoplifter foil bags. They also have the best detection when placed on metal media, like CD’s or DVD’s.
COST EFFICIENCY
With Tagit 3D systems you can protect your books with traditional tail tags produced by all suppliers as well as with single and double side glue 90, 63 and even 51 mm B type labels produced by Tagit.
Silent operation
Tagit Systems, with the latest AC/DC adapter are silent, a key requirement for libraries.
Range of 3D systems
Tagit produce a range of systems, from the lower cost Fortuna System, to the highly attractive Premium Light version, to the high end full Acrylic Premium version. Ideal for libra-ries with different aesthetic and budget requirements.
Own quality control
Tagit Systems go through stringent quality control tests and are extremely reliable and come with a 2 year warranty. This lowers the total cost of ownership of the systems.
Understanding EM vs. RFID in Library Security
Many libraries assume RFID is the only solution for book protection, but in reality, Electromagnetic (EM) systems are the industry standard for theft prevention.
EM
Electromagnetic security systems provide reliable theft prevention using Tattle-Tape® (EM Strips) placed inside book spines.
RFID
Radio Frequency Identification systems are mainly used for inventory management and self-checkout but require integration with Library Management Systems (LMS).
EM and RFID serve different purposes, and libraries should choose based on their security and operational needs.
EM vs. RFID: Key Differences
A side-by-side comparison of Electromagnetic (EM) security systems and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) systems:
Comparison | EM | Electromagnetic Security Focus | RFID | Radio Frequency Identification Inventory Focus |
---|---|---|
aha | saf | ass |
Primary Purpose | Theft prevention (EAS - Electronic Article Surveillance) | Inventory tracking & self-service checkouts |
Tag Type | Small, flexible EM strip inside the book spine | RFID label/tag inside the book cover |
Detection Reliability | Detects books even when stacked, near metal, or hidden under clothing | Can be affected by metal interference or body shielding |
Deactivation & Reactivation | Manual deactivation required at checkout | Automatic deactivation during self-checkout |
Security Gates | Works with EM security gates, ensuring books cannot be removed without deactivation | RFID gates only detect tagged books when actively scanned |
Integration Requirement | No integration needed – standalone security system | Requires software integration with Library Management System (LMS) |
Cost | Lower initial cost, simple setup | Higher cost due to system complexity |
Self-Checkout Compatibility | Not designed for self-checkout systems | Supports self-service kiosks with RFID readers |
Inventory Management | No inventory tracking – security-focused only | Tracks books in real-time with RFID scanners |
Durability | EM strips last 20+ years (no electronics) | RFID tags have a lifespan of 10+ years, affected by wear |
Shelf Scanning | Manual scanning required for inventory | RFID handheld scanners allow quick inventory checks |
Installation Complexity | Easy to install – requires gates & deactivation unit | More complex – requires software, scanners, and trained staff |
Future Expansion | Standalone system, no software dependency | Expandable – integrates with access control, self-checkout kiosks, and digital systems |
Why EM is the Preferred Choice for Library Security
Unlike RFID, which is focused on inventory tracking, EM security systems are optimized for theft prevention:
Stronger Detection
EM tags remain invisible inside book spines and work even when books are stacked or near metal objects.
No Complex Integration Needed
Works independently from library software—no IT setup required.
Long-Lasting & Cost-Effective
EM strips have a 20+ year lifespan, with low maintenance costs.
Wide Compatibility
Tagit’s EM strips work with major EM EAS systems like 3M, Sentry, Certus, Dialoc, Gateway, Knogo, Checkpoint, Sensormatic.

EM LABELS
FOR LIBRARIES
Tagit developed and owns the technology of label production from raw material to finished product. The entire manufacturing process is done in-house - from casting the metal and all the way to printing a customer logo on a desired label.
We produce EM labels for all types of EM systems including: Checkpoint/Meto, 3M, Old Sensormatic J and P systems, Gateway, Certus, Dialoc and others.
Read about Tagit Library EM Tag Performance
Tagit™ is world leading manufacturer of a complete range of EM security tags. We manufacture and market library security tags under our own name, and we also manufacture EM security tags for our competitors. Produced from superior grade metallurgical elements in modern manufacturing resources located within Europe, our EM strip materials are second to none in quality and detection performance.
Tagit™ holds international patents for unique manufacturing technologies which deliver EM tags(Barkhausen) with superior detection performance.
Our most popular library book tag product is the 165 mm tail tag. This ultra slim, double sided adhesive strip is designed to be inserted between the pages of books and journals extra-long release-fabric ‘tails’ facilitate the easier insertion of the adhesive strip deep into the gutter, making visual detection by thieves virtually impossible. Our tags comply entirely long established international defacto standards for EM library security tags, and are entirely compatible with all non-Tagit™ systems and tags.
The fundamental benefit of EM tail tags is that they can be switched on and off; e.g. activated and deactivated on an indefinite basis. This makes them ideal for lending library operations where legitimately loaned books have their security tags deactivated at the service counter prior to leaving the library. If you wish to protect ‘reference only’ media, we supply a range of non deactivatable security tags, ideal for these applications.
So, whether you have a lending or ‘reference only’ library, whether you want to protect books, CDs, DVDs or magnetic media etc., Tagit™ has got the quality solution you need.

FAQ
What is the best place in the book to place the label ?
The best place is between the pages at the end of the book. (Between the pages in the last part of the book)
Can we use 2 labels at 90 degrees to each other to increase the effectiveness ?
Detection will be better, but the activation and deactivation process will be more complicated. Therefore it is not recommended.
Can we cut/split the labels, to increase the number of books we can tag ?
No, because the shorter label is unlikely to detect.
Are the antennas and the accessories dangerous for the health of the staff ?
The system is safe for use by all staff and is in accordance with all the local certifications.
How many times can the labels be activated/deactivated ?
There is no limit on the number of times that tha labels can be deactivated or reactivated.
